What is microdermabrasion good for?
Discover the benefits of microdermabrasion skin treatments.
Microdermabrasion is a family of cosmetic procedures popular in day spas, doctors' practices, and beauty salons in which the stratum corneum (dead outermost surface of the skin) is partially or completely removed by light abrasion, to remove sun-damaged skin and to remove or lessen scars and dark spots on the skin. Microdermabrasion is a process that deeply exfoliates, polishes, and increases the lymphatic drainage of skin. It uses a gentle vacuum to bring your skin in contact with a diamond coated head that gently abrades the top layer of dead skin.
There is a variety of microdermabrasion machines available originally they started with crystal microdermabrasion and now diamond tipped machines are more common. There are even a lot of home microdermabrasion devices available however it is widely believed these machines do not exfoliate to the same level as those found in cosmetic doctors and beauty salons.

What can you expect from a microdermabrasion treatment
Microdermabrasion is relatively painless. You will feel a tingling, scratching sensation. Afterwards you may experience skin sensitivity and redness. Microdermabrasion is better to do at the end of the day and not recommended to do on the day of an important event. You may experience some skin flaking for a few days after.
As with any exfoliation treatment it is important to wear sunblock and protect the skin.
Always find a professional trained therapist or doctor to administer microdermabrasion.
Microdermabrasion will cost anywhere between $80 and $120 per session and most salon's will sell them in a set of treatments sometimes combined with other facial peels or laser treatments.
