Sydney Mardi Gras 2012

 

This world famous festival is a colourful celebration of gay pride and sexuality and consists of 3 weeks of exciting events including the iconic Parade and Mardi Gras Fair Day along with dance parties, concerts and more. Sydney Mardi Gras is one of the largest festivals in the world and attracts thousands of international and local visitors, making it the second largest of Sydney events.

2012 Mardi Gras Dates

Sydney Mardi Gras kicks off on 12 February 2012 with the Fair Day in Camperdown and concludes on 4 March 2012 on Parade Day.

Mardi Gras Fair Day

Fair Day is the opening event for the official Mardi Gras festival and takes place in Victoria Park. The day regularly attracts 70,000 people to enjoy performances by well-known artists, browse stalls and catch up with friends. Mardi Gras Fair Day stalls include community organisations, business, gourmet food, arts and pet treats to name a few.

Harbour ’12 Dance Parties

Mardi Gras is all about celebration and where better for a Mardi Gras party than the Sydney Harbour foreshore? Harbour ’12 Dance Parties are held on the Fleet Steps at Mrs Macquarie’s Point and feature local and international DJs together with sensational live performances. Partygoers enjoy a spectacular Sydney sunset and dance the night away in one of the world’s most stunning locations.

Harbour ’12 Dance Parties run from 3pm to 11pm on 25 February 2012 and tickets start at $119. Book through FoxTix.

Mardi Gras Parade 2012

The most renowned event in the festival, the Mardi Gras Parade is a flamboyant procession of elaborate floats and entrants in colourful costumes. Originally a protest march, the Sydney Mardi Gras Parade is now a celebration of gay pride and support, with topical themes and political messages provoking hilarity and sometimes outrage. The Mardi Gras Parade features more than 8,000 entrants every year and attracts approximately 300,000 spectators.

The Parade starts at Hyde Park and travels several kilometres through Darlinghurst to in Moore Park Road. Mardi Gras Parade is held on 3 March 2012 and starts at 7.45pm, finishing at 10pm.
