Do you cringe every time you see a photo of yourself? Do you wonder when your arms started to look like thighs and when you developed 3 double chins? Well you are not alone! Discover easy tips on how you too can look good in photos.

There are some things that all of us do when we pose for a photo with friends or family the most common being we tend to lean backwards, away from the camera. As we lean back we generally pull our heads backwards - exposing and often creating the double chin effect. So many people hate having their photo taken that they will do anything to avoid it. But lets face it - none of us are getting any younger and although we never feel like we look good enough most of us look back at photos and say look how "young", "skinny", "happy" I was! Follow these simple tips so you too can start being more photogenic!

Tips to looking good in photos.

1. If sitting - move your bottom to the edge of the seat - this will instantly make you sit up taller and improve your posture.

2. If standing - turn your body on an angle (45 degree), turn your head to the camera and put your weight on the front foot - this will push your body slightly forward.

3. Don't pull your head back or lift your chin too high. Just slightly tilt your chin forward and upward to ensure you are not creating double-chins.

4. It is better if the photographer is slightly higher than you - on a step or chair - reducing the exposure of your chin.

5. Hold your arms slightly away from your body to reduce the amount of arm squashing which can double the size of your arms making them appear like big sausages.

6. Stop talking. This is my biggest mistake - other people smile but I quite literally just keep on chatting - guaranteeing that my face will look contorted.

7. Avoid standing under a down light - this instantly gives you rings and bags and can be terribly aging.

8. Try to have the main source of light in front of you. Close your eyes if it is very sunny and open as the photo is being taken to avoid squinting.

9. Engage your face and think happy thoughts - so that your eyes sparkle with energy.

10. Smile.

I have so many bad photos it was hard to choose one as an example for this article. The photo here shows me learning away from the camera - exposing my chins (I never knew I had) and squashing my arm.

Rest assured that all of the celebrities you see taking fabulous shots in the media have all had training or spent significant time learning what their best angles are and how to take a good photo. I have a funny photo of myself with Russel Crowe and Danielle Spencer taken in the early 1990's at a wedding that shows how good they look in a photo and how bad I look. People "pose" for photos. With a little practice you too can look hot in your photos!

They are very good tips, I will definitely try them out. I have often watched Jennifer Hawkins and the pose she takes on each time someone takes her photo. From my observation Jennifer turns her head slightly to the side, drops her chin a little and then looks up into the camera. Thanks for the hints..
