We just spend our annual family holiday in Hamilton Island. Fantastic location. Fly in and fly out - perfect if you are travelling with little ones. Really beautiful Island -another one of Australia's holiday gems.
So with only 7 days to spare we chose Hamilton Island for our November holiday - we had to go this year outside of school holidays which made little difference as the Island was still packed to capacity. We stayed at the Reef View Hotel - which has a modern apartment feel, without the kitchen (I had no intention of cooking or cleaning on this break!). The view from the rooms was breathtaking and I realised I had never been this far north before. The water and the islands are a real paradise - beyond my expectations.
Hamilton Island is different to anything I had ever experienced before. All of the hotels and shops etc are all connected., could go to different restaurants, pools, bars and shops and charge it all to the room. Fantastic! The pools were all really beautiful and the kids had a ball. We all did. There were enough activities to keep the 12 year old boy entertained and the "other half" spent a day at Golf on Dent Island which he expressed as "breath taking" and quite a challenging course with many balls going missing.
I expected the Island to be more expensive but overall it wasn't too bad and the food quality in all restaurants was really good. The service and amenities were terrific with golf carts the main mode of transporation - everyone was zipping around the island.
We all loved the breakfast buffet and it all ran like a well oiled machine with over 800 people going through breakfast on one day at the Reef View - it never felt really crowded.
There were free buses going around the island every 15 minutes and although we had more rain then we would of liked - I loved my holiday!
Keeping sending in ideas - not sure where we will go next year!
